Everyone is given 3 meals a day, but if someone can put money on your books, then you can buy extra food from commissary.

Commissary not only charge high prices, they also charge from 5 to 12 times for the same item.

They're given 3 slop trays of food a day. It is supposedly enough for the average sized person. It's old bread, alot of bologna, no real protein, some kind of jello or dill salad. Some trustees get to work on the food line putting the trays together, so you may or may not get a decent portion, some of your food is slapped on there in a pile, you get the idea.

My boyfriend is 6'3"/200 lbs. He's starving in there! If I didn't put money on his books, he'd be hungry all the time. He already is anyway.

They actually trade, wheel/deal for food in there. Commissary comes each morning and charges EXORBITANT prices for stuff like honey buns, soup, paper/envelopes, aspirin, coffee, stuff like that.

Food is like a precious commodity in Dallas Co. Jails- they actually play poker for it!

I know what you mean. My ex was locked up for 8 months and they would play poker all the time for money and food. Sometimes i would have to give up phone calls cause he lost.
